Ketamine has been used for decades as an anesthetic agent and treatment for chronic neuropathic pain. In recent years, use has evolved with studies demonstrating its unique ability to treat acute depression and suicidality.
In particular, given intravenously, Ketamine is the only medication shown to be non-inferior to electroconvulsive therapy, the gold standard remedy for treatment-resistant depression.
Maui Mind Care offers this therapy when appropriate to individuals struggling with major depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and certain forms of anxiety.
Treatments are typically under an hour, with most patients receiving up to six initial treatments over the course of a month. Patients with chronic illness may require ongoing care.
All prospective patients undergo psychiatric and medical clearance. We are the only center on Maui providing this service by a Board-Certified psychiatrist and a critical care registered nurse.
